Town Hall
The Palace of the Marquess of Saint Nicholas in Briones is a characteristic building of the baroque civil architecture of La Rioja in the 18th century, with an organization of great front that marks the axis ground floor with windows and two discharges of balconies, finished off in a spectacular eaves of brackets of stone and entirely decorated with verbiages, shells, rocallas and broken moldings adorning the hollows.
It was raised by Ignacio Elejalde by D. Esteban's order of France, finishing in 1755 according to the date that appears in the top balcony. In 1766 he inherited of his uncle the Marquess's title of Saint Nicholas and incorporated then the shield repeated on cross of Santiago on both sides of the principal balcony. It is constructed in stone by main face to the Major and different Plaza to the fence by equal distribution but simpler of decoration.
In last century, when mayor was nominated the Marquess, It moved to his house the municipal dependences and with the time Briones's Town hall remained established definitively in him At present the Palace of the Marquess of Saint Nicholas is a property of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja and after a deep restoration carried out by the Department of Culture that It finished in 1996, shares his space with the Town hall of the Villa and the Center of Exhibitions.
